There are no known risks involved in a standard echocardiogram. An echo does not emit radiation. You may experience some mild discomfort if the ultrasound probe is pressed firmly on the chest wall to obtain a clear image. You may experience mild irritation from the sticky ECG dots used to monitor your heart rhythm during the echocardiogram. Echocardiograms are safe in pregnant women.
